In its weekly report covering the period 4-10 September, ReCAAP ISC informed of another attempted incident of armed robbery against a ship anchored at Muara Berau Anchorage, Samarinda, Indonesia, involving the Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier "Red Lily".
While at anchor and during cargo operations in the evening hours of 27 August, the duty crew stationed at the forecastle deck sighted two perpetrators attempted to board the ship through the anchor chain. He immediately notified the duty officer and the master.
The alarm was raised, and other crew made their way to the forward deck. Hearing the alerted crew approaching, the perpetrators aborted the attempt and escaped in their boat. The master reported the incident to the ship’s agent. Nothing was stolen and the crew was not injured.
ReCAAP ISC reports often include similar incidents against ships in Samarinda anchorage.
"The ReCAAP ISC urges ship master and crew to report all incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships to the nearest coastal State and flag State, exercise vigilance and adopt relevant preventive measures taking reference from the Regional Guide to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia."
